Women
Because it is the oldest and most culturally ingrained of the inequitable societal structures, one can, at best, infrequently find a clear ideological progression from oppression to equality in modern textual representations of both Adam and Eve, and Toni Morrison’s work is a rare exception in a society that continues to present the sexualized human form as a commodity. The foundational qualities of this particular relationship may be so ingrained that they have slowed down this development, but the rules of the media used in pursuit of this destruction must also be taken into account. The overriding patriarchal rules of advertising make it hard to both explore and explode the binary systems especially with regards to gender because of the highly sexualized way in which the human body, the majority of which are women, are used to sell products, and there are several examples that have appeared recently on the horizon of America’s consciousness that highlight the lack of progress this medium has made.
